Today, Terrie Smith and I observed a pair of Pine Siskins in Thickson's Woods
(southeast side near the cattail marsh). One of the pair was observed
collecting a huge mouthful of cattail "down" and carrying it off into the
woods. We couldn't determine the path as the birds flew high and fast, carrying
the plant down with them. Presumably nest construction is well under way, since
they were carrying the lining material, so the superstructure must have been
already built.
