Today I had the rare pleasure of hearing a northern shrike singing from the top of a large sugar maple in the south end of Guelph. For a brief moment I tried to convince myself it was a loggerhead, but the mask and bill would not cooperate. The song wasn't a give away for me, as I have only once before heard a northern sing and never a loggerhead. The bird was on the north side of Forestell Road about 300m west of the Hanlon Expressway (Hwy #6).
