Highlights of reports received April 16 through April 23 from the Niagara Frontier Region include EURASIAN WIGEON and BOS April Count reports.

April 18 and 19, EURASIAN WIGEON was reported again at Cayuga Pool, on Route 77 in the Iroquois Refuge. During April, it appears that 2 EURASIAN WIGEONS and a EURASIAN X AMERICAN WIGEON hybrid have been found at the pool.

The BOS April Count was conducted on the 19th. Arriving warblers - LA. WATERTHRUSH in northeast Cattaraugus County, PINE WARBLERS at Krull Park in Olcott and St. Columbans in the Town of Sheridan, and YELLOW-R. WARBLERS at several locations. Also, most sections reported multiple FOX SPARROWS.

The Grand Island and southwest Niagara County section reported 78 species, including 74 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 7 YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKERS, CLIFF SWALLOW and 5 HERMIT THRUSHES.

Northeast Niagara County - 88 species including abundant LONG-TAILED DUCKS and RED-BR. MERGANSERS on Lake Ontario, 262 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 78 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 22 COMMON LOONS, 24 HORNED GREBES, 21 RED-NECKED GREBES, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, L. BLACK-B. GULL, 28 CASPIAN TERNS, 3 BARRED OWLS, an impressive 5 PILEATED WOODPECKERS, 7 COMMON REDPOLLS and 48 PINE SISKINS.

In the northwest section of Niagara County - 105 species including 44 RED-THROATED LOONS, 16 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, 2 MERLINS, SANDHILL CRANE, 3 SHORT-
 EARED OWLS, 40 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 26 PURPLE FINCHES, 2 WHITE-
 W. CROSSBILLS and 72 PINE SISKINS.

And in the Southern Tier, in northeast Cattaraugus County, MERLIN, 3 COMMON RAVENS, 103 PINE SISKINS and previously mentioned LA. WATERTHRUSH.

Other reports this week - COMMON LOON at the Ontario Street boat launch in Buffalo's Riverside. Two COMMON RAVENS at the Meadows Road State Land in the Town of Arkwright. At Amherst State Park, WOOD DUCK, first report of GREEN HERON, 2 PINE WARBLERS and 12 YELLOW-R. WARBLERS. BROAD-WINGED HAWK returned to a breeding area in the Town of Orchard Park. In Amherst, PEREGRINE FALCON over Main Street and Bailey Avenue and in a Williamsville yard, 2 WHITE-W. CROSSBILLS, COMMON REDPOLL and over 20 PINE SISKINS. In a Silver Creek yard, 23 PURPLE FINCHES. And, a bird described at a backyard pool in the Town of Tonawanda was likely a BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERON or GREAT BLUE HERON.
