Hello Ontbirders. Just got back from Pelee last night and decided to check out
the Sunday sighting of a female Hooded Warbler at the small "bowl" in Col. Sam
Smith Park in Etobicoke(TORONTO). I met 3 other birders coming out of the
larger bowl that hadn't seen squat but upon entering the north end I heard a
Hooded Warbler singing loudly and got same great looks at this adult male while
it sang and flitted about in the mid-regions of the largest conifers boardering
the depression.
This IS A DIFFERERNT bird than the female reported Sunday obviously. I am
amazed by this as I have never seen a Hooded here and now we've had 2 in 3 days!
I left the bird singing on the north-east edge. I had bolted after the 3
birders I passed earlier but could not find them to show them the bird... sorry
folks!
Directions: Col. Sam. Smith Park is located at the foot of Kipling Ave., south
of Lakeshore Dr. in Etobicoke. The bowl is in the northeast area of the park
(not in the park proper) next to actual Lakeshore Dr. Parking is from the
parking lots nearest the park entrances reach by following Kipling south of the
lakeshore.
Cheers,
Andrew Keaveney
