Hello Ontbirders.
Rondeau has seen a significant influx of new arrivals overnight. The most
significant of these was a possible Townsend’s Warbler, male, seen this morning
on Harrison Trail a short distance north of the Pony Barn parking lot. A
number of observers are out looking for this bird, and I will post additional
details as soon as possible.
Other good warblers include Yellow-breasted Chat, Kentucky Warbler,
Prothonotary Warbler and Connecticut Warbler. The Chat was on South Point
Trail, and the others were on Tulip Tree Trail. The Prothonotary was seen near
the boardwalk with the Prothonotary sign, and was entering nest boxes # 23 and
#24. The Kentucky was near the trail entrance. Observers took the left fork
where the controlled burn sign is located, and walked a short distance. A
total of 23 warbler species have been seen in the park this morning.
Another 2 American Avocets were noted this morning flying south along the
shoreline.
At the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons, the Eared Grebe seen May 3 and 4 was seen
again May 6. I will report on sightings there after my hike at the lagoons
this afternoon.
