The Whimbrel watch formally ended on 28 May but was extended because
we felt the many of Whimbrels had not made it through. None was seen
yesterday in during approximately 8 hours of observations but a small
number of Semipalmated Sandpipers, Sanderlings and probable Western
Sandpipers were there for most of the afternoon. The total number of
Whimbrels seen on the watch to date this spring is 3699.
Today I will there for a few hours this morning ... and longer if we
get some Whimbrels.
Again we encourage anyone who sees Whimbrel in next few days to report
them to Mark Cranford or me with number, direction of movement and
time and location if not C. Sam Smith Park.
We thank all those who came out over the past 11 days to help us with
the count.
Directions: off Kipling South at Lakeshore.
