Birders, The South Peel Naturalists Club trip to the Currie Tract, Halton Region Forest, found some fine birds today. Highlights include:
Prairie Warbler: We met a fellow named Evan (sorry, I never got his surname) who discovered a Prairie Warbler near the 6th electricity tower. I am not quite 100% positive it is the 6th, it could be the 5th, as you have to walk through several wooded areas to get here and you lose site of the towers at times. In any event, follow the trail along the towers. There is a field on the left, cross the field and check out the support girder of the 6th tower. If it numbered N580M, then you are at the right place! The Prairie Warbler was singing in the apple tree and surrounding area about 30 yards to the east of the tower. Golden-winged Warblers: we had 3 actively calling and chasing one another around near the 2nd tower. Mourning Warbler: calling and seen very well just south of the 2nd tower. Blue-winged Warblers: many Brewster's Warbler: fine views of a first generation male in the fields around the 3rd tower. We also had Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Buntings and Eastern Towhee's galore, and lots of other warblers and sparrows. Jim Watt Oakville, Ontario Currie Tract: off of Guelph Line between the 5th and 10th sideroads, just north of the 401, across from the Mohawk raceway, just north of Campbellville.. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
