Reports received June 18 through June 25 from the Niagara Frontier Region.
At Allegany State Park, the first summer RED-THROATED LOON was still
present on June 21 at Quaker Lake. Up to 3 YELLOW-
THR. WARBLERS and 5 NORTHERN PARULAS plus PINE WARBLER at
Maintenance Road and Allegany State Park Road 1. And, a hike on the
Wolf Run Loop reported 14 warbler species plus ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS,
WINTER WREN and SWAINSON'S THRUSH.
Other ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS this week in Chautauqua County at
Wheeler's Gulf on Fredonia-Stockton Road in Pomfret, Luensman Overlook
Park on Thayer Road in Portland, and Old Allegany Road in Hanover.
Also in Chautauqua County, female and first summer male ORCHARD ORIOLE
at the Berry Road marsh in Pomfret, and 6 BOBOLINKS and 5 SAVANNAH
SPARROWS on Farr Road in Portland.
Another BOBOLINK was reported this week at an unexpected location -
a yard on the Wales-Aurora Townline.
June 24, highlights from the Protection Road Bog in the Erie County
Town of Holland included BARRED OWL, a family of YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKERS
and 11 warbler species, plus BLUE-
HEADED VIREO, BROWN CREEPER, VEERY, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, WOOD THRUSH,
SCARLET TANAGER and PURPLE FINCH.
In Genesee County, the BALD EAGLE nest in the Town of Alexander has
two young eagles ready to fledge. The nest is over Tonawanda Creek,
about 100 yards north of Route 20. Though partially obscured, the nest
is visible from the Route 20 bridge. Outside the region, at the
Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in Central New York, up 30 BALD
EAGLES, mostly subadults, feeding on carp stranded in the main pool.
