Birding, Beach, Enthusiasts,
This morning and early afternoon, Fred Bodsworth, Nancy
Bodsworth-Hannah, John Fenton and myself spent several hours on the beach at
Port Burwell Provincial Park, on the north shore-central basin of lake Erie. Of
the approximately 5,000 gulls present the vast majority were Ring-billed gulls.
There were approximately 700 Bonaparte's Gulls , with at least 10 Little Gulls
observed amoung the groups, both flying and on the beach. There were about 400
Common Terns and 50 to 70 Caspian Terns. Much smaller numbers of shorebirds
included ,Ruddy Turnstones, Sanderling, Least Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper,
Semipalmated Plover and Killdeer. Good birding.
