Hi all. Sorry for the late posting. I came home late and tired last night.
A Long-billed Dowitcher in worn breeding plumage was present late yesterday afternoon, after the rain, in the North-West cell at the Embrun Sewage Lagoons. The bird was feeding in the South-East corner of the cell; after a while it called numerous times, permitting me to make sure of its identification, and took off. Without the calls I would not have been able to come to a conclusion, although the bird had markings suggesting Long-billed on breast, and no dots on flanks. In the same cell at Embrun, there were Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, one Semipalmated Plover and a first summer Black-crowned Night-Heron. I also went to the St-Albert sewage lagoons where another Long-billed Dowitcher was present the previous Sunday and Monday. A few greater and lesser Yellowlegs there but no Dowitcher. Lots of swallows. Good birding to all. Langis Sirois, Ottawa Directions from Ottawa: take the 417 in the East direction, take the Limoges exit (79) and go South on County Road 5; after about 3.5 kms, turn right on route 400; the logoons are at about 2 kms from road 5, on the right. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
