At 1058EST 3 of us at the Cranberry Marsh Raptor platform in south Whitby were
witness to a westward-flying AMERICAN AVOCET. The bird flew to the lakefront.
Rayfield Pye was the first to ID it; shortly thereafter Dan Kaczynski
arrived--he decided to go west to the mouth of Duffins Creek. At 1155am Dan
phoned me from there to report that an Avocet and Great Egret were in the water
of Rotary Park, just north of the walkway bridge.

For Duffins Creek, access Westney Rd. S. from the 401 at exit 401--south about
2km. to Lake DriveWay on the west side--drive along it until you get to a
parking area that sits astride the marshland, OR go a bit further south to walk
along the waterfront trail over to the walkway bridge.

This was day 1 at the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch--weather conditions were not
conducive to a flight of hawks---1 migrating OSPREY. The Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds are on the move--we had 12 over 3 hrs.
