[Update - BOS Shorebird Field Trip, Sunday, August 30, to
the Canadian shore of Lake Erie, including Rock Point
Provincial Park. Meet at 7 AM at Vermont and Busti, near
the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Participants will join into car
pools at this location, and each car will share the $13 per
vehicle entry fee to Rock Point Park. Bring proper border
crossing credentials, and visitors are always welcome on BOS trips.]

Highlights of reports received August 20 through August 27 from the
Niagara Frontier Region include LAUGHING GULL, shorebirds and warblers.
August 21 and 22, an adult LAUGHING GULL at Dunkirk Harbor. The gull
has been reported on the breakwalls and the docks to the west of the
pier. Also at the harbor, on the Main Street beach this week,
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, SANDERLING, SEMIPALM.
SANDPIPER and LEAST SANDPIPER.
In the Niagara County Town of Wilson, the soybean field on the west
side of Hulbert Road, just north of Youngstown-
Wilson road, continues to yield migrant shorebirds. At least 15
species this week, highlighted by 2 WHITE-R. SANDPIPERS, 10 AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVERS, one STILT SANDPIPER, and on the east side of the road,
4 UPLAND SANDPIPERS. Other shorebirds at this location - BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
SOLITARY SANDPIPER, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, SHORT-B. DOWITCHER and WILSON'S SNIPE. Nearby, an
unexpected OSPREY.
Shorebirds at the Town of Elba sodfield on Route 98 in Genesee
County on August 24 - 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 34 SEMIPALM. SANDPIPERS, 12
LEAST SANDPIPERS, 6 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 8 KILLDEER.
Also on the 24th, a combined 11 warbler species among 58 species at
Tifft Nature Preserve and Times Beach in Buffalo. Warblers included
TENNESSEE WARBLER, CHESTNUT-S. WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, YELLOW-R.
WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, BL. AND W.
WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART and WILSON'S WARBLER, plus 2 YELLOW-B.
FLYCATCHERS, a rare migrant ACADIAN FLYCATCHER, BL.-GR. GNATCATCHER
and VEERY.
Other reports this week - adult BALD EAGLE in the Wyoming County
Town of Warsaw, feeding at Blackhouse and Buffalo Roads. In Chautauqua
County, 6 sub-adult BALD EAGLES at the Saint Columbans property on
Route 5 in the Town of Sheridan, and 3 BALD EAGLES over the Village of
Silver Creek. At Krull Park in Olcott, a RED-HEADED WDPKR. In Amherst,
single COMMON NIGHTHAWKS over Williamsville and Snyder. And, a
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO in a Snyder yard.
