This system will move northeast tonight as low pressure comes in from the south bringing moisture and potential for an abbreviated count tomorrow from rain. Temperatures today reached the upper 70s F, with winds light from the east until midday, switching to east-southeast. Cloud cover was welcomed in the morning after a few days of staring at blue sky, but this decreased by afternoon to restricted cloud cover at the horizon, still causing us to count many raptors overhead "in the blue". Raptor Observations: Raptors totaled 130 birds, of which 81 were sharp-shinned hawks with just a trickle of 20 broad-wings. After a decent start from northern harriers this season, the last few days have been weak, with us seeing just 3 today. The flight of the broad-wings was directly overhead, with most other species making the passage in a more disorganized manner. Non-raptor Observations: At 3:00PM EST, 8 red knots flew north up the channel. Few passerines were noted and the swallow flight was poor. Monarchs were less than yesterday - likely fewer than 150 seen. Predictions: The migraton outlook will have to be assessed tomorrow morning as this low pressure moves in tonight. It is unlikely a push of any kind will occur. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
