ONTBIRDERS, On Monday afternoon, Daphne Turner and I spotted seven species of shorebird at Silver Lake in Port Dover. Included were the HUDSONIAN GODWIT, one LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, and two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. The godwit was nowhere to be seen for quite some time, then came flying in about 3 pm with a flock of yellowlegs.
Direction (per previous posting by Barry Jones): Giving directions from Hamilton, take hwy.#6 to Lake Erie at Port Dover. At the second traffic light (there are only two)turn right (north), drive a couple of blocks to St.Patrick St. & turn left. Within a block you will begin to see Silver Lake on the right. Park by the soccer field & walk west along the lake. The best muddy edge is at the west end of the lake where the godwit was.
