Jim picked up an adult BALD EAGLE in the late afternoon.
In mid-morning we had been watching 2 perched raptors for at least an hour.
Suddenly one of them,
a Sharp-shinned flew north and westerly. The other flew, literally right at
us, electing to take several
twisting dives at our poled plastic owl before continuing on.
The continuing easterly winds are not what we want along the north shore of
Lake Ontario--only
11 migating raptors came through.
Migrating Raptor Observations:
4 turkey vulture, 1 BALD EAGLE, 3 Sharp-shinned, 1 Am.kestrel, 1 Merlin, 1
Peregrine falcon
Non-raptor Observations: marsh wren, many hummingbirds, Wilson's
warbler, black-&-white warbler,
Am.redstart, magnolia warbler, 2 GREAT EGRETS, Nashville warbler, common
yellowthroat,
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, GREEN HERON, swamp sparrow, common loon,
rose-breasted
grosbeak, Am. coot, and many more. We had 2 long columns of migrating BLUE
JAYS.
From the 401 eastbound, exit at Salem Rd. in Ajax, south to Bayly, then
east through LakeRidge Rd. to the first street beyond--Hall's Rd.--south
toward the lake to the second roadside parking area.
