A heads-up for the weekend: I did not see the Long-billed Dowitchers today. Nor did I find a Western Sandpiper, though I looked at every peep repeatedly. Most of the shorebirds were hanging around Lookout 3 on the Owen Point Trail from Beach 4. Here there were 2 White-rumped Sandpipers, 4 Baird's Sandpipers, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, plus many Sanderlings, Semi-palmated Plovers, Semi-palmated Sandpipers, and Least Sandpipers. On the growing tombolo and Gull Island were at least 3 Whimbrel, 1 American Golden-Plover, several Spotted Sandpipers, several Kildeer, and many of the above-listed commoners, plus lots of . On Sebastopol were 3 Ruddy Turnstones, 1 Black-bellied Plover, and 1 Baird's. The water is only knee deep out to Gull Island but is a problem if there are waves.
Directions as per Fred Helleiner's posting.
