Visitors:
About 25 visitors to the Tower today including, among others, Richard
Guillet, Jim McCoy, Olga and Roland Klekner, Jason, Wayne, and Sylvia
Telasco, and Caroline Staddon. Richard has earned the distinct title of
"Kettle King" for this week after spotting numerous distant Broadwing
kettles.

Clear to partly cloudy skies with North-northeast to Northeast winds at 5
to 10 mph for most of the day. Winds shifted to Southeast, or onshore,
around 1430 EST. Temps. climbed from 12 to 21.5C. Excellent visibility to
about 30 km.
Raptor Observations:
Slower than expected given the continuing moderate Northeast winds. Largest
aggregation of Broadwings (350) in active flapping flight across a broad
expanse of sky. Not a very common sight to see for this species.
Non-raptor Observations:
11 species of waterfowl,
Black-crowned Night-heron- 2,
Bald Eagle- 5 locals,
Shorebirds included Killdeer(4), Semi-p. Plover(1), Lesser Yellowlegs(1),
Solitary Sandpiper(2), S-b Dowitcher(1), and Wilson's Snipe(10).

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 1,
Poor morning flight of warblers. Hardly any on the ground. Nashville(2+),
Chestnut-sided(2+), Black-throated Blue(3), Yellow-rumped(10),
Black-throated Green(1+), Blackpoll/Bay-breasted, and Wilson's(1) Warblers
and American Redstart(2+), Northern Waterthrush(1, lingering all day) and
Common Yellowthroat(1+).
Cedar Waxwing- 162,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak- 1,
White-throated Sparrow- 3,
White-crowned Sparrow- 1 imm. (FOF),
Purple Finch- 2,
American Goldfinch- 490,
Other:
Monarch- 612 (most after 1400 EST),
Numerous dragonflies today.
Predictions:
Partly cloudy skies with West to Northwest winds at 2 to 8 mph. High of
23C. Chance of PM rain showers around 20%. Likely similar raptor totals to
today, though perhaps fewer Broadwings.
