Hello ontbirders,
The Marbled Godwit is still present on the mudflats at Shirley's Bay where it
has been since Thursday morning. Bob Cermak, Kim Zbitnew, Jan Slumkoski and
myself were out early to see that bird and the Stilt Sandpiper that is still
present. While scanning the reeds behind the mudflats I found a Nelson's
(Sharp-Tailed) Sparrow. To our delight is was visible for a good 45 minutes
while it was combing the reeds and coming in and out of view. About thirty
birders got to have exceptional looks at the bird this morning. Hopefully it
remains around. It was mainly in about a 30 foot area behind the mudflats just
to the left of where the trees start.
In addition we had two Rusty Blackbirds out on the mud, American Pipits (2) and
the Barn Swallow found yesterday was still flying around as well. A very brief
stop in the south of Ottawa at Burnside Pits revealed three Snow Geese. No sign
yet of the White-Fronted reported yesterday.
Good birding,
Jay Peterson
