Weather: Overcast to mostly cloudy skies with calm Southeast to South-southeast winds in the AM increasing to 4 to 7 mph by early PM. Warm and humid with temps. ranging from 21.5 to 24C. Poor visibility all day at less than 10 km. Raptor Observations: Average of about 2 raptors per hour up until 1030 EST when clearing skies encouraged some Sharpies and Broadwings to lift off and start westward. The first ADULT Red-shouldered Hawk of the season passed by at 1405 EST. Non-raptor Observations: 10 species of waterfowl, Black-crowned Night-heron- 6 (3 ads., 3 juvs.), Bald Eagle- 6 locals, Shorebirds included Killdeer(10), Semi-p. Plover(1), Greater(1) and Lesser(9) Yellowlegs. A few other distant fly-by sandpipers not ID'ed. Eastern Screech-Owl- 1, Chimney Swift- 8, Ruby-throated Hummingbird- 4, Red-headed Woodpecker- 1 ad., Alder Flycatcher- 1 (calling today), Blue Jay- 14,100+, American Crow- 7, Swainson's Thrush- 1, Red-eyed Vireo- 1, Low diversity of warblers on the ground; only 5 species noted. 2 Cape Mays, including 1 AHY male, were the highlights. Cedar Waxwing- 65, Rose-breasted Grosbeak- 2, Purple Finch- 1, American Goldfinch- 735, Other: Monarch- 12 Few dragonflies today. Predictions: More moisture building in from the South ahead of the front. Mostly cloudy skies with Southwest to West winds at 2 to 12 mph. High of 26C. Chance of rain showers around 50%.
