They were between 3-6 and 5-10MPH. Raptor Observations: Today was the best day of the past three days. Not that it was hard to do so. We started out at the normal hawk count site, Lake Erie Metropark, but at around 10:30 two counters were sent over to the second count site, Pointe Mouillee SGA. For the fist 30 mins. both sites were about the same. Then after the first full hour at the SGA it was clear that the SGA was better. It was still kind of slow, but also steady at the same time. At this site 97 Sharp-shinned Hawks were counted. 27 Red-tailed Hawks were nice to see, along with 2 Peregrine Falcons. Non-raptor Observations: Walking the tail early in the day at the Lake Erie Metropark site I was able to find a few warblers. Also one Swainson's Thrush and one Gray-cheeked Thrush. Again a good number of Blue Jays went over, (~2000). Predictions: Friday looks to be about the same, but maybe have winds more from the East. The count should be about like today. But rain is likely Saturday so birds might move a head of that. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Pointe Mouillee State Game Area information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
