This morning Kevin Dance and I birded Thicksons Woods and the Corbit Creek Wetland area and had a nice diversity of fall birds. At the wetland we had Northern Parula, Black-throated Green, Mourning, Yellow-rumps, Common Yellowthroat, juvenile Sapsuckers, Olive-sided, Willow, and Trails Flycatchters, Phoebes, Swamp, Song, White-throated, and Lincoln's Sparrows, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. In the woods, we found Ovenbirds, Black-throated Blues, and Redstarts, with Philadelphia Vireos, Swainsons Veery, and Grey-cheeked Thrushes. Along the Lakeshore walking trail immediately west of the woods, I had 3 more Grey-cheecked Thrushes, another Philadelphia Vireo, Magnoilia and approximately 30 Palm Warblers. Also seen were more Ruby crowned and Golde-crowned Kinglets, a Wilson's Snipe, 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks, an Osprey, and Caspian Terns.
Thickson's Woods is located at the south end of Thickson's Road (exit of the 401) in Whitby. Follow it south Towards the lake and look for the small road with the no exit sign (second last road on the left) (east) side approaching the lake. The woods are on left immediately after turning down the dead end. The wetland is a few hundred metres further on the dead end. Good birding, Brett Woodman, Kitchener, ON _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
