Claude Radley stopped by briefly before heading over to the raptor banding station for the day. Weather: Overcast to partly cloudy skies with strong West to West-northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph, and gusts in excess of 30 mph, throughout the AM. Winds dropping back to 10 to 15 mph for a better part of the PM. Temps. ranged from 10.9 to 14.7C. Visibility excellent from start to finish. Raptor Observations: As expected, there was a good flight of vultures. Kestrels were relatively numerous as well. However, Buteos were lacking. Non-raptor Observations: Reduced species detections/diversity with such strong winds. Very few birds flying up through mid-morning. Bald Eagle- 4 deemed as locals, Chimney Swift- upwards of 55, Blue Jay- 1,650, Brown Thrasher- 2 (local pair), Indigo Bunting- 1, Am. Goldfinch- 495, Other: Monarch- 30. Predictions: Partly to mostly cloudy skies with a chance of rain showers late in the day. Southwest winds at 5 to 15 mph. High of 16C. Chance of rain around 50%.
