Greetings! What a beautiful day. For the most part lately it has been depressing at Tommy Thompson Park: no birds. Today, we chanced it and were well-rewarded.
First of all we spotted a Hermit Thrush but it did not stick around. Then we came upon a cooperative Eastern Phoebe. Sitting on a branch checking us out. Imagine our surprise when it flew off and landed closer to us! We also saw a few Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Gold Finches, Kinglets, and White-throated Sparrows. There were more birds around but we ran out of time. We were in the woods to the right of the main gate past the parking lot. It is just east of the end of the Gardiner Expressway south of Lakeshore Blvd. It is closed during the day. Be careful of the dump trucks and other vehicles on the road as the speed limit is 60 kph and they are not expecting pedestrians during the week. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
