Highlights of reports received October 1 through October 8 from the Niagara Frontier Region include ROSS'S GOOSE, CALIFORNIA GULL and LONG-B. DOWITCHER and a WHITE IBIS update.

At the eastern line of the BOS region, October 3, a ROSS'S GOOSE among 500 CANADA GEESE in the Genesee County Town of Alexander, at Peaviner and Old Creek Roads. This may be the first October record of ROSS'S GOOSE in the BOS archives.

Also on Peaviner Road this week, 7 RUDDY TURNSTONES, numbers of AMERICAN PIPITS and a PINE SISKIN in a flock of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES.

From Niagara Falls, New York, a third winter CALIFORNIA GULL on October 7, off the Three Sisters Islands at Goat Island. Excluding one September record, this is the region's earliest occurrence of CALIFORNIA GULL. Also a record count of almost 1300 N. ROUGH-W. SWALLOWS over the rapids at Goat Island.

The juvenile WHITE IBIS, last reported at the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area the evening of September 29, has apparently moved over to the north shore of Lake Ontario. October 3, a WHITE IBIS was photographed in Whitby, Ontario, and October 6, a WHITE IBIS flew by Prince Edward Point. Photos from Tonawanda and Whitby are good evidence that this is the same wandering ibis.

Excellent shorebird habitat and viewing conditions continue in the marsh on Griswold Road, north of Route 77 in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area. Several reports this week of up to 3 juvenile LONG-B. DOWITCHERS and 3 STILT SANDPIPERS, plus SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, DUNLIN and WILSON'S SNIPE.

Less than a mile east of Griswold Road along Route 77, 8 CACKLING GEESE on October 6.

Other reports this week - At the Batavia Waste Water Plant, 4 EARED GREBES, WHITE-R. SANDPIPER and at least 14 waterfowl species. On Lake Ontario at Wilson, an adult PARASITIC JAEGER, plus 60 COMMON LOONS, 90 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, BLACK SCOTER and 5 RED-BR. MERGANSERS. In a Williamsville yard, a flyover PEREGRINE FALCON, plus RUBY-T. HUMMINGBIRD, 4 thrush species and a lingering NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH among 9 warbler species. Another PEREGRINE FALCON near the north Grand Island bridges. Five warbler species at Goat Island including an ORANGE-CR. WARBLER. And in a yard in the Town of Holland, PALM WARBLER, WHITE-CR. SPARROW and ROSE-BR. GROSBEAK.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, October 15. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and reporting to Dial-a-Bird.
