Hello Ontbirds people,

Thanks to Langis Sirois for posting the discoveries of the Greater
White-fronted, Cackling and Ross's Geese among the crowds of Canada's along
Milton Rd. this morning (Oct. 12) by Tom Hanrahan, Richard Waters and Normand
Larche.

And, thanks to Richard who contacted others including myself, Bob Bracken, Bob
Cermak, Bernie Ladouceur and Jay Peterson we were able to not only find the
Milton Rd. geese but were prompted to go for a big goose day......and were
remarkably successful in accomplishing a first for the Ottawa 50 K birding area
(and probably eastern Ontario) - 6 species in one day. We added Brant (a flock
of approx. 180) at Andrew Haydon Park (several more were posted by Bev
McBride), and a last-minute adult Snow Goose at the Moodie Dr. quarry pond
~3:30 this afternoon.

Directions (from downtown Ottawa):

MILTON RD: Take Hwy 417 east to exit #96, go north on 41(Boundary Rd.) towards
Carlsbad Springs, then east on 26 (Russell Rd.) to 85 (Milton Rd). North on
Milton. The majority of geese including the Greater White-fronted, Cackling &
Ross's were in a field on the west side of Milton near the intersection with
Smith Rd. The geese were very restless so could be anywhere in the area.

ANDREW HAYDON PARK: Take Hwy 417 west to exit # 129, go north on Pinecrest Rd.
to Carling Ave. West on Carling to Andrew Haydon Park. The lone Brant was still
present today (here since at least 10 July!) and completely ignored the
additional flocks of Brant that arrived on the river just north of the ponds in
the park.

MOODIE DRIVE POND: Take Hwy 417 west to Hwy 416, south on 416 to exit # 66
(Fallowfield Rd.). West on Fallowfield to Moodie Dr. South on Moodie and look
for the large quarry pond on the east side, south of Trail Rd. ** PLEASE NOTE
THAT THIS IS AN ACTIVE SAND & GRAVEL QUARRY ON PRIVATE PROPERTY - PLEASE
OBSERVE THE BIRDS FROM THE ROAD AND DO NOT CROSS THE FENCE.
