It's been a relatively uneventful week locally marked only by a few
lingering species and the arrival of hordes of White-crowned and
White-throated Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos. Three Blue-headed Vireos were
seen north of the city at disparate locations over the long weekend and
there was a Red-eyed Vireo at Bedford Mills on Monday. Warblers of note
included a Cape May at Prince Edward Point on Monday, a Nashville and an
Orange-crowned at Bedford Mills on Tuesday and another Orange-crowned at
Elginburg, also on Tuesday. Chipping, Field and Fox Sparrows were also
reported along with good numbers of both kinglets and Yellow-rumped
Warblers. Other passerines noted were Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Hermit
Thrush, and Purple Finch.

Raptor reports are down, possibly because both islands are being served by
smaller ferries while the Wolfe Islander is in for repairs. However there
was a Cooper's Hawk at Bedford Mills and an adult Bald Eagle at Otter Lake
on Tuesday and 2 N. Saw-whet Owls on Amherst Island on Monday.

A paddle down Collin's Creek on Monday produced a large flock of Rusty
Blackbirds, a Sora and a calling Least Bittern.

Cheers,

Peter Good
