Visitors:
A couple of visitors today...Mike Munn (St. Thomas), Paul Campbell (St.
Thomas)
Weather:
Moderate NE winds for the day kept the birds moving and nicely down towards
the lake. The temp started at a chilly 0C and gradually climbed to 6 where
it remained steady for the rest of teh count period. Complete cloud cover
to start that broke out through part of the morning then built back in
again in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Not a bad flight today with 1368 birds tallied. Half of today's flight were
TV's (612) with a decent number of Redtails (294) and Sharpies (304). An
excellent flight of Red-shoulders (99) with other highlights being Goshawk
(1), Golden Eagle (2) and Peregrine(1).
Non-raptor Observations:
Thanks to Mary C. for the continued passerine report...both nuthatch
species (WB and RB), both kinglets (RC and GC), lots of sparrows again
today and good sized flocks of Blackbirds and Crows. Killdeer were seen
again today and the highlight was a single COMMON RAVEN (we've had them in
previous yers around this same timeframe).
Predictions:
Saturday looks like another great hawkwatching day...predicted NE winds to
20kph and a mix of sun and cloud.
