Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 10:00:00
Total observation time: 2 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Bouwe Bergsma, Ernie Gribble, Jim Dunn, Keith Sealy,
Mark Cunningham, Mary Carnahan
Visitors:
No visitors noted today.
Weather:
Strong SW winds and a few clouds for the 2 hours the counters put in today.
Temp much warmer to a high of 14.
Raptor Observations:
As expected on strong SW winds at this time of the year there weren't many
birds passing by the hawkwatch. Today's total was just 43 birds! The only
highlight today was a lone Peregrine along the cliff making use of the
strong updraft.
Non-raptor Observations:
Pretty much the same species (mixed blackbirds, crows, robins) moving
through in flocks ranging from a few birds to a few hundred. Yellow-rumped
warblers continue to be seen in good numbers along with RC Kinglets. The
numbers of GC Kinglets appear to be dropping off.
Predictions:
The weather continues to look rather unfavourable over the next several
days with predicted SW winds and quite a bit of rain. The only good news is
that several days of rain followed by a strong cold front often helps hold
the birds up and they then come through in a big push. We'll just have to
see how the next few days play out.
