Hey Ontbirders. Myself and a few friends went to Long Point yesterday after a
night of Halloween wildness in Guelph. Only 5 of us attended from the Guelph
Wildlife Club.
Dominic Cormier (Guelph student from Nova Scotia) observed a Worm-eating
Warbler along the intial path (left side walking away from parking lot) at the
Old Cut field station around noon. Although I was only about 10 m. away I did
NOT observe the bird, nor did the other birders with us. I did a fairly
thorough search and turned up nothing.
I cannot vouch for the sighting other than that Dom does know his birds fairly
well. It would be nice if it was caught in the nets!
Also a group of chickadees were hounding a small owl in the old cut woodlot,
but good luck finding that bird!
Other birds: Eastern Bluebird, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Brown Creepers, 1
poss. Nashville. (all at oldcut) and a "Lesser" Canada Goose seen from the 2nd
viewing tower along the dyke at Big Creek Marsh. This subspecies belongs to
the Canada Goose correct??? It's bill was not short/stout enough for a Cackler
and although considerably smaller than the several "Common" Canada Geese
nearby, it was still noticeably larger than the mallards and black ducks
swimming in conjunction with it. I can't honestly say I've identified this
form in Ontario before though I'm sure it is common enough????
Love to hear some feedback on that through private emails!
Cheers,
Andrew Keaveney
Directions: Big Creek Marsh is off the Long Point Causeway. Long Point (Old
Cut Field Station) is on Old Cut Dr. off the main rd. to Long Point P.P.
