I did not refind the Brant. I looked along most of the rocky waterfront in the
park. I don't think they are still around... perhaps they moved on to Marie
Curtis Park or beyond... Ratray's Mash? There would be little point to looking
for them in the morning to those of you whom emailed asking.
P.S.
Also Colonal Sam Smith park is yet again being destroyed by the city. The
plans for an outdoor skating path had been finalized and despite a very active
group of local citizens doing everything in their power to stop it, it's
happening... but what the city didn't say was that they were going to clear the
ENTIRE field next to the newest parking lot and powerhouse. Apparently this
wasn't even included in the recent unveiling of developments... IT JUST
HAPPENED! I have seen this park been completely destroyed (and seen much of
the wildlife disappear) over the past 10-15 years while growing up, going to
school and birding in the area. If I'ved learned anything from this experience
it's that the city does what it wants... PERIOD. They toy with local
conservation groups by "giving them a say" when really our say was never meant
to count. I honestly wonder what kind of student would want to become a
conservationist in this day and age!
