Highlights of reports received November 5 through November 12 from
the Niagara Frontier Region include CALIFORNIA GULL, FORSTER'S TERN,
GR. WHITE-FR. GOOSE, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, SNOW BUNTING, and outside the
region, CAVE SWALLOWS.
November 7, an adult CALIFORNIA GULL, resting on the rocks upstream
of the Three Sisters Islands, at Goat Island in Niagara Falls, New
York. Also, 4 L. BLACK-B. GULLS on the same rocks, and 4 YELLOW-R.
WARBLERS on the islands.
Other Niagara River highlights - LITTLE GULL at Lewiston. From the
Ontario side of the river, 2 L. BLACK-B. GULLS and 3 DUNLIN at the
control structure above the falls, another L. BLACK-B. GULL at the
power plant overlook, and several thousand BONAPARTE'S GULLS at
Niagara-on-the-Lake. On Lake Ontario, passing Wilson, over 1000
BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 2 LITTLE GULLS.
November 5 and 7, a FORSTER'S TERN on Lake Erie at Dunkirk Harbor.
From the Iroquois Refuge, November 6, a single GR. WHITE-FR. GOOSE
at Ring-neck Marsh, with a CACKLING GOOSE and abundant RING-NECKED
DUCKS.
Other waterfowl reports this week - 11 TUNDRA SWANS in the Oak
Orchard Wildlife Management Area. At the Van Buren Road ponds in the
Chautauqua County Town of Pomfret, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 32 BUFFLEHEADS, 4
HOODED MERGANSERS and 13 COMMON MERGANSERS. And, 26 HOODED MERGANSERS
at Times Beach Nature Preserve, on Furhman Blvd. in Buffalo.
November 6, just north of the Iroquois Refuge in the fields at
Barber Road and East Shelby Road, 3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 20 SNOW
BUNTINGS among 100 HORNED LARKS.
November 9, east of the BOS region, 47 CAVE SWALLOWS moving over
Hamlin Beach State Park on Lake Ontario.
Other reports this week - Three BALD EAGLES at Saint Columbans in
the Town of Sheridan. At the North Grand Island bridges, two PEREGRINE
FALCONS. GREATER YELLOWLEGS at the Griswold Road marsh, north of Route
77 in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area. Two YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKERS
and WINTER WREN at the mouth of Silver Creek in Chautauqua County.
AMER. TREE SPARROWS and RED-BR. NUTHATCHES at several feeders. And, 7
PINE SISKINS at a feeder in Wilson.
