At 1:55 p.m. today (Nov. 17), I had two Cave Swallows outside my office window at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters in Burlington on the shore of Hamilton Harbour next to the Burlington Ship Canal. My office looks west over the Harbour, and the birds were flying back and forth in the lee of the building out of the strong NE winds. This side of the building is not accessible to the public. As I had to get to a meeting at 2:00 I could not get the word out earlier, but I was able to get one of my work colleagues (also a birder) to see these birds. Unfortunately, they did not stick around for more than five minutes, likely due to the presence of a Peregrine Falcon which was perched on the roof of the building having a meal (hopefully a pigeon). I don't know which direction they headed when they left.
