Hello Fellow Birders:It's a pleasure to let you know that Mr. P. was seen
feeding on the rose hips at 07:30 and just now(09:00) sitting atop his
favourite multiflora rose. Yesterday afternoon was overcast and breezy and Mr.
P. did not fly around much, probably conserving energy. Overcast, cool, days
tend to keep him somewhat 'earthbound', without the grooming activities
displayed on sunny days atop the leafless trees. There are still lots of rose
hips in his territory, that being, the backyard adjacent to # 20 Ascot. Once
again Sue is leaving the door open at the rear of the carport for easy access
into the backyard. Mr. P can also, often be sighted, sitting within the common
buckthorn next to the green and white utility shed. The buckhorn retains its
leaves quite late into the season and the smallish black berries are retained
until the spring at which point they become a food source for bluejays,
starlings, cedar waxwings, robins and with any luck our splendid Phainopepla.
The fact that the buckthorn still has leaves is an advantage to Mr. P. where he
can shelter.
To so many of you who have requested that our neighbours be thanked for their
generous assistance, please know that I continue to thank them on a daily basis
and I let them know, how impressed the birding community is with the
co-operative friendliness of this area. Thanks to the gentleman who suggested a
photo be given to the neighbours and Thank you very much Sam Barone for so
generously giving me a stack of excellent photos of Mr. P. Today we will
further foster this goodwill by including the pictures in a thank you letter to
be delivered to neighbours on Addington, Ascot and Aberdeen.
The weather here is very overcast and misty.Continued good
birding.DianDirections:401 to 410 North (another option is Dixie Rd. North);
