Weather: Sunny to begin with increasing cloud ahead of the advancing cold front. Light to moderate SW winds. Temps climbed from an early morning low of 6 to a high of 11C. Raptor Observations: A slow day with only three raptors making the grade. One of the local adult Bald Eagles flushed thousands of ducks from the marsh. Looking for birds wounded by the local hunters? The local immature Peregrine had a little competition from a very white breasted adult Peregrine that took over the perch on the Eagle tree an relegated the immature to a shrub on the island. Both birds ignored a transient immature Peregrine that streaked West low over the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: Not much moving today. Tundra Swans - 37 Common Loon - 7 American Robin - 1 American Goldfinch - 43 European Starling - 184 Brown-headed Cowbird - 18 Northern Flicker - 1 Predictions: West winds, sunshine, good visibility and single digit temperatures behind tonight's cold front may bring a few more birds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Claude Radley ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
