Dear Ontbirder's
I am posting this with permission on behalf of Skye Haas and Michigan
Audubon. This should be a very worthwhile project worthy of our
support. Thanks.

*Keweenaw Raptor Survey *

The Copper Country Audubon Club of Houghton and the Laughing Whitefish
Audubon Society of Marquette, have joined to initiate the Keweenaw
Raptor Survey, a three-year project to document the massive spring
raptor migration in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. We are asking for
your financial support.
The limited amount of existing data suggest that the Keweenaw
migration may actually be as large in magnitude as the well-known
migration at Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, yet not a single full-
season count has ever been conducted. The Keweenaw Raptor Survey
will hire a professional hawk counter to be stationed at Brockway
Mountain in Keweenaw County for a full three-month migration season in
2010. If we can maintain adequate funding, we intend to complete a
three-year count of the raptor migration to establish the size, timing
and species composition of the Keweenaw migration. In order for the
project to proceed, we must raise at least *$6,000 per year*.
Brockway Mountain is one of the most stellar viewing locations for
migrant raptors- it is not everyday one can peer down at a passing
Golden Eagle or stare a Broad-winged Hawk in the eye. We invite you to
come next spring and see these amazing sights for yourself! Our
counter will be there documenting the migration beginning in mid-March.
You will be able to follow along with the counter's observations which
will be published weekly on both our blog at the Keweenaw Raptor
Survey <http://keweenawraptorsurvey.org/> website, and at the North
American HawkCount website, Hawkcount! <http://hawkcount.org/>. At the
completion of the three year project, the results will be submitted
for publication.
