Ont-birders,

Well, I managed a bit of a county round-up for December 1st birds although the
results were pretty lacklustre. Does anyone else think that birds know how to
read a calender? I have a slew of late records that are all Nov 30!

Anyway, Wildwood Lake did produce a single Killdeer and a 1st basic Lesser
Black-Backed Gull along with good numbers [for the date and location] of Hooded
Merganser [45] and a latish flock of 10 Green-winged Teal. A slightly injured
Greater Yellowlegs, present last week, got better-- apparently-- and managed
it's escape before the dreaded 1st of the month.

Pittock Lake still hosts at least 3 b.h.hutchinsii, easily seen later in the
afternoon, mostly on the north shore. Also present was a single female Ruddy
Duck, which is just the 2nd ever county December record. Another flock of 20
Hooded Merganser added to the days total. Most of these birds should be present
until freeze-up which, with history as a guide, will be about one day before
the Woodstock CBC.

So, not much to get the winter listers excited about but it's a start.

Cheers.
