Good Frosty Morning Fellow Birders:Upon entering the backyard of # 8 Aberdeen Cr. this morning, Mr. P. was in obvious view, sitting high atop 'his' shrub attempting to absorb as much of the early morning sun as possible. As he completed his morning ablutions, I witnessed a most interesting beahaviour. Mr. P. sat for approx. 8 minutes in a pose somewhat reminiscent of a cormorant, with wings held out and away from the body. The wings were not at right angles to the body but definitely away from the body enough to see the white wing patches. In this pose he looked quite slim as his body frame was easily profiled. Soon after, a pair of cardinals invaded his territory along with a small flock of house sparrows. Mr. P. was kept constantly busy attempting to 'shoo' everyone away but there were too many for him. Unfortunately, I saw him take only 2 rose hips during a 45 minute period. Then the mockingbird made his presence known and Mr. P. took to the skies, to be found briefly in the crabapple in front of #8 Aberdeen. As an aside, it was a wonderful reunion this morning for Mr. Rheingold Pokraka (hope I spelled that correctly) and his friend, who had great views once again of a Phainopepla. I say once again, because it was Mr. Pokraka who found the First Phainopepla in 1975 just outside London. What a thrill it was for him today, a sight he never thought to repeat. He showed me his scrapbook and the original articles and photos and recalled that day of 34 years ago, as if it was yesterday. Thank you Mr. Pokraka for making the journey to see a spectacle that is somewhat of a deja vu.
