Thanks to the sharp eyes of Stu Mackenzie, he and I were able to get on to the Black-tailed Gull as it flew by the Bird Studies Canada office about 5 minutes ago. It is presumably the same bird that has been seen off and on at Port Burwell just west of here on Lake Erie. A full adult in basic plumage. The weather as you can imagine is very blustery here today with heavy rain showers and a strong southwest wind, not unlike the conditions that we saw the bird in back in September at Port Burwell.
This sighting was, like the more recent ones, quite brief as the bird continued on to the west and out of sight. I don't know what the chances are that it will even stay in the Long Point area. This is, as one would expect, a first record for the Long Point area. BSC headquarters is at 115 Front Rd. on the outskirts of Port Rowan.
