Hey Ontbirders. On a tip from a friend I headed to a rural residence northeast
of New Market this morning to look for a 'purported' BOAT-TAILED GRACKLE.
Of course this wasn't what the bird turned out to be... it was a stunning
example of a Rusty Blackbird - A fine bird to look at nonetheless!
The bird was seen in a backyard and has apparently been coming to a feeder with
a Red-winged Blackbird though I only observed the Rusty in one of the backyard
trees.
Directions: Take 401 (either direction) to 404 and go north. Turn right on
Davis and continue to #48. Turn north again and continue to Ravenshoe Rd.
Turn right at Ravenshoe and continue to Park Rd. (after crossing a railway
track). Turn north on Park Rd. and then left on the first road you come to
going north on Park - Old Shiloe Rd. (or Concession 2) I believe. This road
dead ends about a mile down and the bird was seen in the backyard of the last
house on the right before the dead end.
Cheers,
Andrew Keaveney
