Dear Ontbirders, Yesterday morning, my wife Asa and I had a female King Eider at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Stoney Creek. There were a number of White-winged Scoters and 3 male Black Scoters as well just off the tip. Numerous other species were present, including Greater Scaup, Redhead, Red-breasted and Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, and thousands of Long-Tailed Ducks. A Kestrel was hunting in the conservation area but songbirds were quite scarce. A flock of Robins were in the creek ravine by the Yacht Club.
Afterwards, we stopped at LaSalle Marina and found a nice winter plumaged Red-throated Loon out in Hamilton Harbour just south of the islands on the far left side of the harbour. Fifty Point CA is on the east end of Lake Ontario and can be reached by exiting the QEW in Stoney Creek at Fifty Point Road and following the directions. LaSalle Marina can also be reached by exiting the QEW in Burlington at Brant Street and following the signs. It is located on the north side of Hamilton Harbour (sometimes called Burlington Bay).
