January 17 - The results of the January Waterfowl Count and mid-winter Bald Eagle Survey at Fort Erie at the source of the Niagara River between the ice boom and the Peace Bridge there were: Canada Geese 43 Mallard 54 American Black Duck 20 Bufflehead 3609 Common Goldeneye 3950 White-winged Scoter 71 Red-breasted Merganser 126 Common Mergansers 10 Lesser Scaup 43 Greater Scaup 260 Scaup species 2200 Redhead 500 Long-tailed Duck 172 We also saw two adult Bald Eagles and a Merlin.
