Hello Birders, Kyle Holloway and myself had a few interesting migrants today at Rondeau Provincial Park.
FIELD and CHIPPING SPARROWS were common near the Visitor Centre and on the lawns of some of the cottages. An EASTERN TOWHEE was singing near the Visitor Centre and some birders reported seeing a few on the South Point Trail. YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and NORTHERN FLICKER were widespread and common. RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS vocalized a few times on the Tulip Tree Trail. EASTERN PHOEBES were also apparent. Two HERMIT THRUSH were on the Spicebush Trail, and two WINTER WRENS were on the Tulip Tree Trail as well. As we were exiting the Park, the wetland just near the entrance had a flyover GREAT EGRET and an adult BALD EAGLE. As an addendum to my previous report of the Wilson's Phalarope in the Blenheim lagoons, a few CANVASBACKS were in cell two. Other waterfowl included AMERICAN WIGEON, RING-NECKED DUCK, RUDDY DUCK, REDHEAD, NORTHERN SHOVELER and WOOD DUCK. AMERICAN COOTS were also present in most cells.
