At around 5:30 p.m today, there were 5 young Trumpeter swans on the west side of Mill Pond in Hillsburgh. They were all very close to the Elora Cataract trail parking lot (next to Morette's furniture), which is located on Station Road, just off Trafalgar, midway through the village (the firehall is on the corner of Station Road) and Trafalgar. They all came quite close to the edge of the pond, so their tags were readily visible. Tags A60, H26, H35, H36 & H37. There were also 2 Trumpeters across the pond near the library (too far to see their tags, but likely the parents?). A Turkey Vulture was also seen in the ditch along 17th sideroad, just west of 6th line (Erin township), eating a raccoon carcass, at about 6:45 p.m. Good birding. Paloma Plant
