I drove the rectangular loop of McNamee Rd., Wylie Rd., Alvar Rd., and
Victoria Rd., between 7 and 9 am this morning. Alvar Rd is flooded at the
swamp but you can drive through if you have water clearance of one foot.
Their was a loggerhead shrike on the territory occupied last year on McNamee
Rd between Victoria Rd and Shrike Rd on the south side just west of the now
closed Horncastle Rd.
The sounds on Wylie Rd were very impressive: winnowing snipe, eastern
meadowlarks, drumming yellow-bellied sapsuckers and ruffed grouse, calling
turkeys and more. One could 'hardly hear' the numerous bluebirds and
sparrows.
A few new arrivals were good to detect. They included: savannah and vesper
sparrows, eastern towhee and a single upland sandpiper.

See you at the Carden Festival!
Bob Hartley
