An aerial survey of Snow Goose locations in Eastern Ontario was conducted by the Canadian Wildlife Service on Friday. The results were as follows:
Pointe Fortune 6500 on the Ottawa River east of Hawkesbury at the Quebec boundary Bainsville (St. Lawrence) 800 in the middle of the river Williamstown (Kraft pond) 1500 Delisle River 7500 between Glen Norman and Dalhousie Mills small creek 200 SE of Glen Andrew Alexandria Lagoon 3500 Maxville 10000 field near the lagoon Chesterville Lagoon 3500 Alfred 4000 field near the lagoon The numbers were down quite a bit from the past few years but that was anticipated. More birds than usual had moved quickly through the region into Quebec during the initial flight in March. The geese will likely be moving on soon as their migration to the Arctic resumes. If you are checking any particular area at this time of year, the best time is from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, when they remain on or close to bodies of water. Many, as noted here were at lagoons.
