We had 18 species of warbler this week including 2 Canada Warblers on the
Rideau Trail last Saturday, Golden-winged and Cerulean on the Opinicon Road,
Orange-crowned and Prairie at PEPt all seen last Sunday, and a Blackpoll near
the Wilton Creek yesterday. Other new arrivals included Blue-headed, Warbling
and Yellow-throated Vireo, Wood Thrush, Gray Catbird, Scarlet Tanager,
Bobolink, and Baltimore Oriole. There were also 3 Orchard Orioles at PEPt on
Sunday. Flycatchers so far this season include E. Phoebe, Least, Great Crested,
and E. Kingbird.

Shorebird migration is certainly improving. The Wilson's Phalarope were back on
Amherst Island last Saturday and there was also an Am. Golden Plover the same
day. On Tuesday the KFN property had 8 Least and 4 Pectoral Sandpipers, a
Black-bellied Plover and a Marbled Godwit that flushed with a flock of teal
never to be seen again. The Wilton Creek near Morven has a good selection; both
yellowlegs, as well as several Spotted, Solitary and Least Sandpipers.

Looking for Loggerhead Shrikes has its bonuses. On the alvar south of Odessa
there were 3 Grasshopper and 2 Clay-coloured Sparrows on Tuesday.

A single Rough-legged Hawk was seen on Amherst, also on Tuesday.

Cheers,

Peter Good
