* * *Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for : May 15, 2010* Another beautiful day greeted birders in the Park this morning. There was just a sighting of a MISSISSIPPI KITE, seen flying south from over Chinquapin Trail. Light winds from the southwest caused a slight “reverse migration” at the Tip, of orioles, jays, kingbirds and a few other species. About 20 species of warbler were at the Tip but far fewer numbers of birds than yesterday. Still, people were very pleased to see some of their favourites, such as CANADA, BAY-BREASTED, TENNESSEE, and BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS. A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen by many. No reports of the KIRTLAND’S WARBLER which was seen yesterday. Other birds at the tip included RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, a BLACK-BILLED and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. At the very Tip, SANDERLINGS and a RUDDY TURNSTONE were found. The WHITE-EYED VIREO pair nesting near the washrooms at the Tip were noted again today. In Post Woods, HOODED WARBLER and a SUMMER TANAGER were reported. There was a PRAIRIE WARBLER also reported from there. In Woodland Trail, CAPE MAY WARBLER and BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO were reported. In Tilden Woods, there was another report of KENTUCKY WARBLER singing and a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seen. Along Shuster Trail, out near the beach, there was an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER.
