Good Morning everyone! We are finally enjoying a nice, sunny morning in the park.
The Tip area was fairly quite this morning. Two Dunlin were present on the sandspit early on. A very late Dark-eyed Junco was noted. Vireos were easy to find at the Tip this morning and a good diversity of species, including Red-eyed, Warbling, Philadelphia and White-eyed were all reported. Orange-crowned, Canada, Mourning and Blackpoll Warblers were all present as well. Many people chose to walk the road between the Tip and the Half-way stop and were able to find quite a diversity of species, scattered in small pockets along the way. Warblers reported included : Tennessee, Nashville, Blackburnian, Blackpoll, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Bay-breasted, Black-throated Green and Black-and-white. More flycatchers are being observed in the park, with many Eastern Wood-Pewees and Great Crested Flycatchers noted this morning. Late yesterday afternoon a female Summer Tanager was reported from the Tip and a Connecticut Warbler was reported from the south picnic shelter at West Beach - it was vocalizing and seen very briefly. I was coincidentally in the same location just after the sighting yesterday and unfortunately the bird did not vocalize again for the hour I was there. The American White Pelicans have not been reported since late yesterday, when there were observed leaving Hillman Marsh. We have not had any reports of the Black-bellied Whistling Ducks on Peche Island today - I was already planning a trip to Windsor and will take a peak and see if I can find them.
