Hello ontbirders, The whimbrels are in at Port Stanley. At 12:30 today(Thursday) we saw 8 fly in and circle several times before flying westward. Also seen with this group were 4 birds identified by Bob Hayward as eskimo curlew.
Directions: Hwy 4 south to Port Stanley, at the stop light drive straight ahead then turn left into the parking lot for east beach. At the farther end on this parking lot is an entrance to another parking lot on the right. Drive toward the lake and take the rutty and sometimes muddy road to the right and park by the stone edge. Watch over the pier as this is the direction in which the whimbrel are seen as they fly in.
