Hey Birders,

I've been up in Kapuskasing since May 25th, this report covers roughly since
May 30th.

Great Gray Owl - the same individual I reported about a week ago is hanging
around in the same location, 54km north of Kapuskasing. A second bird has been
seen once and they are likely a pair. Usually they are seen every other day,
right along the logging road we take up from Kap.

Northern Hawk-Owl - 1 bird just west of Kapuskasing between Hardy and
Ostapalatik was seen today. Their are also 2 birds present at the Hearst Sewage
Lagoons, again most likely a pair.

American Three-toed Woodpecker - 1 bird heard north of Kap, about 90km, near
Smoky Falls on June 1st.

Tern sp. - 2 seen at the large reservoir at Little Long June 2nd and May 31st.
These are either Common or Arctic, but have been too far to id properly.

American Coot - 2, a pair was seen at the Hearst Sewage Lagoons today (June 3rd)

Chimney Swift - 1 bird was seen yesterday (June 2nd) flying along the Mattagami
River

Eastern Bluebird - 1 female at the old settlement at Smoky Falls

White-winged Crossbill's - several small flocks are seen daily, flying over

No sign of any Canvasback's yet.

Good Birding,

Ken Burrell

Directions: check previous emails for getting to the Hearst Sewage Lagoons,
email me privately for getting north of Kap. I wouldn't recommend driving north
of Kapuskasing - the roads are very poor and we have had some truck problems
already, but email me privately anyways if you would like to know more
specifically where I've seen some of these species.
